our secret events

Every so often we host a secret event. What makes them so secret? Well, you have to have been a client or at least know us through friends of friends...it's not so exclusive, just that we like to know who's coming! The events are completely different each time, but with just one common thread...the food. We try and keep it as imaginative and exciting and as TASTY as we can muster. They've been a complete success so far...

" ...thank you Nik for the most delightful party - it really was the best part of christmas for me..."
Tina, Christmas Secret Restaurant 2007

"Nikki, thank you for producing the most amazing food for us on Friday - everyone was saying it was the best Christmas party food ever - so a huge well done to you and your team!"

“Just a quick note to say a big ‘thank-you’ for last night. Everyone I spoke to said how great the food was and I’ve been overwhelmed by emails and phone calls from staff saying how much they enjoyed themselves. On a personal note I would like to thank you for the great service and for the calm way that you approached something that was unknown territory for us! “ Maxine Hort
Brighton Dome and Festival Christmas party December 2008

“Thanks so much to you and your (very smiley!) team. The food was really delicious, and you kept everyone happy (even when everyone decided they were meat eaters, not vegetarians)!  I had the stroganoff and it was gorgeous! Thanks so much - the dinner was a key part of the conference and it going off without a hitch meant we had some very happy delegates! “
M. Stidolph for Engage November 2008

“Just a quick note to thank you so much for an amazing meal on Sat night at Tilton house. Marcus and I had an amazing time, thanks to you, Polly and Sean. Looking forward to eating your food again in the future

Taste teas and coffees from around the world. Treat yourself to the Secret Restaurant’s special Tiffin menu, including an exclusive champagne Tiffin selection. With light music courtesy of Brighton & Hove Music and Performing Arts and local schools and special access to Brighton Museum & Art Gallery (11am – 4pm), what better setting in which to take time out and plan your next Festival indulgence.

Inspired by the Indian and British theme of the festival, The Dome will create a Palm Court for us to serve our finest Tiffin to you.

Valentine's Day 2009

We’ve found the most peaceful, beautiful and enchanting house and grounds for this year's Valentine Secret Restaurant.

It’s called Tilton House, nestled underneath the South Downs and edged by woodland with far reaching views across the Sussex Weald, it was once home to John Maynard Keynes and ballerina Lydia Lopokova as their retreat for contemplation and calm.

We’re inviting you both to come, not only for dinner, but for the whole afternoon and evening - and, for the early birds, to stay the night in gorgeous rooms - so no driving and breakfast in bed!

We’ll be starting at 2pm, welcoming you to the house from which you can go exploring the downs. Charleston Farmhouse, home to the Bloomsbury set, shares the same private road, which winds into a network of footpaths that is The South Downs Way.

On your return we’ll serve Tiffin in the library.

If you take rooms, you can book a treatment or massage or just take a luxurious bath before coming down to a sumptuous four course dinner. A wine list will also be available all afternoon and evening.

If you stay with us for the night breakfast will be brought to your room in the morning to prolong the romance just a little longer before heading home.

The Secret Restaurant Bodega 2008

The Secret Restaurant Bodega

If there has been a theme this year for us, it has been Spanish food and drink – the unique flavours and aromas and the style of service. We’ve been discovering new tastes and flavours, playing with wines from Jerez and matching them with our favourite morsels to develop new menus and ideas and finding ourselves seeking out a relevant space for the next Secret Restaurant (it’s been a while!).

And we’ve found such a perfect cellar space for our transient bodega. The Basement in Kensington Street in the North Laines of Brighton.

We’re going to move the kitchen in for ONE NIGHT ONLY, get the music on and get the Spanish flavours going...get your friends together and come and spend a rowdy night eating with us – your table is yours for the night...

June at The Secret Restaurant 2008

June at The Secret Restaurant

June at The Secret Restaurant

To the side of a small converted cricket pavilion in Hove park is a perfect secret little courtyard we've been lucky enough to get for our next Secret Restaurant.

It's summer again! We're going to make the most of it and get ourselves cooking outside! (and if it does rain, we've got a cosy back up plan...)

Hove Park Cafe have been kind enough to lend us their place for the night for us to host a posh grill restaurant for One Night Only on Saturday 28th June. It's the season for tomatoes and Grey Mullet, asparagus, Welsh lamb and gooseberries, cherries and rhubarb and we'll be enhancing all that with plenty of citrus and pepper.
To start everyone off, we want to share some chip dry white Port we bought back from our visit to Taylors Port house in Oporto this spring and our own sloe gin cherries!

St. Valentine's Day 2008

St Valentine's Day 2008

St Valentine's Day 2008

We all spent a gorgeous night there in the summer and so where better to spend St. Valentine's Day than our favourite secluded and secret venue? We'd like to invite you to bring your Valentine or your best friends to an intimate evening at The White Cliff's cafe in Saltdean.

It looks like it could be a wild and windy night and we thought we'd embrace it by spending it right there on the beach - but cosy and well-fed with an almost completely aphrodisiac menu...

As usual, we'll be choosing some of the menu for you with a starter platter of aphrodisiacs, followed by a (pre-ordered if possible!) a la carte menu and then a dessert platter to get you going before a coffee and marzipan (almonds really do the trick apparently)...

Winter At The Secret Restaurant 2007

Winter at The Secret Restaurant

Winter at The Secret Restaurant

Winter at the secret restaurant, well, alright let’s say it CHRISTMAS!! This is all very exciting and we’ve written a REALLY special menu to go with the amazing venue we’ve found. This one is on the seafront in Brighton in a Regency Ballroom (grand piano and all). It’s a private house, so we’re keeping it relatively close to our chests this time and doing it more Seattle style - we’ll tell you exactly where it is once you’re booked in. Also, as it’s a private house and is indeed rather fancy - and, (like we needed more reasons), it’ll be CHRISTMAS! We’re asking for formal dress please (or as formal as you can muster!).

Because of the occasion and the space, we’re going banquet style for this one - we have space for 24 - four tables of six or the equivalent, and we’ll all be eating at the same time. If we get booked up, we’ll be running for TWO nights, just a few days before Christmas!

Our staff will greet you at the candlelit door and show you to the ‘restaurant’ where we’ll warm you up with some mulled wine and Turkish Delight before you sit for dinner.

We’re also thrilled to be including some magic in the evening...but we’ll keep that secret for now.

We will also, on request, arrange for you to be on the guest list at koba for later, the private members cocktail bar just a few minutes away...

August in Brighton 2007

Autumn in Brighton

Autumn in Brighton

SUMMER has never seemed so fickle as this year and we've been putting off the summer secret restaurant in the hope of a some real sunshine. We've decided IT'S ON ITS WAY! and have found a beach-side venue on the under cliff walk to suit the occasion. The WHITE CLIFFS CAFE has re-opened, bringing back to life an abandoned art deco building in one of the best spots on the local coastline. It is perfect for the SECRET RESTAURANT, far enough away from the throng, right on the beach. WE LOVE IT!

THE IDEA this time is for us all to have dinner from about 7.30pm. Simon's coming down from Bath to DJ some beach-side tunes while we eat. We'll crank it up a little a bit later to something nice and funky, but not too much hard work! We've got a licence till 2am so a bit of dancing isn't out of the question...

We've loved creating the menu for this one. As usual, we've tried to catch the FLAVOURS or MOODS of the SEASON, with a very, very faint hint of autumn.

Easter 2007

Easter at The Secret Restaurant

Easter boozy lazy sunday Spring is springing. We're having a birthday party. It's Easter Sunday. We reckon it'll be a beautiful day! We've written a menu to match the season and our mood – a grazing menu FULL of FLAVOUR, BURSTING with new ideas and little experiments. And we're going to be open ONE DAY ONLY at the Riverside cafe in LEWES. Secret Restaurant guest, Charlotte suggested it at our last little shindig on Valentine's day at the Fringe, and The Riverside cafe have decided to let us have Easter Sunday. We'll be open from 3 ish until the end! Our pal Simon will be playing some well chosen music, gently DJ-ing us through the afternoon and into the evening...
